  • New research suggests social media doesn’t fuel political polarization. Oh really?

This is interesting, but it doesn’t represent the reality for one simple reason : 3 months in social media is a snapshot in a much more complicated issue. Second, the elephant in the room is the fact most of the societal harm done by big tech platforms (and their ever changing algorithms) has been done progressively in the last 15 years. The drill has been done already. A lost of the most impacted people are not even using Facebook daily anymore. Continue reading →

  • So what makes a "good" guru? #TibetanBuddhism

Context : someone in a survivors support group was asking this question and this was my reply, I’m archiving it on my blog in the hope people stop looking for guru’s, stop losing their discernment in their spiritual journey. What makes a good History teacher? What makes a good social science teacher? Why should we abandon the requirements and expectations we expect and demand from mentors, teachers and give the guru so much power over ourselves, over our lives, over what defines the quest for a spiritual journey? • Simple alert system with python, N8N and Ntfy.sh

So today, with the assistance of #openAI ChatGPT I built a python script to monitor my servers for errors, tasks that do not finish well, containers that become unresponsive etc.. It use python to monitor logs in the filesystem of the Host, when some error match the defined events it triggers a #n8n webhook that relay the JSON payload to ntfy.sh I have then ntfy.sh mobile app with me or on the desktop and I’m subscribed to Topics that allow me to categorize the event errors and from a glance on my phone, have a pretty neat idea of what’s happening in 2 seconds, allowing me to react quickly and adapt to the situation.

Continue reading →

  • Must read : Fighting Fascism in America (and Europe)

The War Department thought it was important for Americans to understand the tactics fascists would use to take power in the United States. They would try to gain power “under the guise of ‘super-patriotism’ and ‘super-Americanism.'” And they would use three techniques: kottke.org/23/05/fig… Continue reading →

  • Tweetdeck will be behind bars in 30 days.

And now the veteran Tweetdeck is going behind Blue “Verified” jail in less than 30 days.. It’s really great how Musk keeps destroying #Twitter More people for the fediverse, like it or not, but this has been the best catalyzer to move people away from big tech. Yes Meta will retain some of the bleeding, it’s unavoidable! Better than Musk anyway. At this stage, everything should be done to empty Twitter. Continue reading →

Continue reading →

  • The big subreddit protest of 2023 has Reddit right at the end of its rope.

  • What if HackerNews got into the ActivityPub bandwagon ?

Thinking about Hacker News but sprinkled with #activitypub imagine being able to reply and participate in any #HN post from the #fediverse and with #webmentions have fediverse comments mingled with native HN activity. Nodebb Discourse + Lemmy #kbin and we shift the balance back in the open web. Continue reading →

  • The Triumph movie, a review.

so much emotions while watching this movie, scenes of of violence that triggers very bad memories and harsh realities of parenting that I never knew but in my own way suffered for their radical absence. It’s really awkward for me to think about my own education environment (born inside a toxic cult ) with elemtary teachers that were average, some were very bad, It was a very closed environment like only coercive communities can be, it’s a paradox that we were at the same time neglected but also sparred from our own parents only to be violented by strangers that were to be considered “the family”.

  • Twitter directly hurting research in several fields at once. Who benefit from this?

Twitter’s recent decision under new owner Elon Musk to charge more than $500,000 annually for a once-free tool to analyze posts on the platform is hampering disinformation and war crimes research, and could slow rescue efforts during natural disasters, according to experts and nonprofit groups. archive.is/202306201… Continue reading →

• Reddit goes dark, misses the moment in the name of "growing up and be an adult" becoming obsolete by its own choice

According to Casey Newton, “It seems also notable that Reddit is moving to centralize control of its ecosystem at the precise time that the rest of industry has begun to explore more federated models. When even Meta is preparing to launch a decentralized social network, it’s fair to ask whether Reddit has misread the moment.” www.platformer.news/p/reddit-… Continue reading →
