I’m using OpenAI Whisper (locally, without access to cloud) to transcribe 3h of French audio recording into text.
I’m actually really impressed. It’s not fast but it’s doing the job.
I had to amplify the audio signal +3db to increase the amplitude but other than that it’s amazing.
Very precise.

Seriously? Damn it, we’re not out of the wood, I wouldn’t totally rule out the US becoming a religious theocracy.

New research suggests social media doesn’t fuel political polarization. Oh really?
This is interesting, but it doesn’t represent the reality for one simple reason : 3 months in social media is a snapshot in a much more complicated issue. Second, the elephant in the room is the fact most of the societal harm done by big tech platforms (and their ever changing algorithms) has been done progressively in the last 15 years. The drill has been done already. A lost of the most impacted people are not even using Facebook daily anymore. Continue reading →

So what makes a "good" guru? #TibetanBuddhism
Context : someone in a survivors support group was asking this question and this was my reply, I’m archiving it on my blog in the hope people stop looking for guru’s, stop losing their discernment in their spiritual journey. What makes a good History teacher? What makes a good social science teacher? Why should we abandon the requirements and expectations we expect and demand from mentors, teachers and give the guru so much power over ourselves, over our lives, over what defines the quest for a spiritual journey? The whole point of the #fediverse is to enable “mutual coexistence” on top of a protocol that everyone can build with. We don’t need to agree on everything & we won’t but we can speak & understand each other on the same layer. It’s beautiful ❤️

Interesting & exciting times!
Next step for ActivityPub by @manton@manton.org
Is it possible to implement a social web platform by reading the suite of #ActivityPub specs, and have that new platform be compatible with #Mastodon?

Such an amateurish and improvised identity switch is, I think, the epitome of the Mollusk way of thinking/working : used to have dogs at his mercy that just have to do things based on his whimps

I wish the Twitter cross-posting feature from micro.blog wasn’t centralized to one API access to Twitter, since anyone can get 1500 tweets a month, it would make sense to allow configuring our own API access to Twitter?
